Speaker Bio: 

Lamar Odom is a two-time NBA champion, an NBA Sixth Man of the Year, and an Olympic gold medalist who credits psychedelic medicine with saving his life. Odom’s journey to redemption from addiction and other mental health issues is chronicled in the documentary Lamar Odom Reborn directed by Zappy Zapolin. His life-changing experiences with ketamine and ibogaine inspired Odom to begin advocating for psychedelics worldwide; he will share his incredible story at PsyCon Las Vegas in a compelling can’t-miss talk for attendees.

Sacred Drugs and a New American “Great Awakening"

Presentation Abstract:  

This seminar will explore psychedelics and other psychoactive substances as sacred sources of meaning and religious life for many Americans in obvious and not-so-obvious ways. We will explore the spiritual transformations taking place in the Psychedelic Renaissance, as well as the deeper historical and cultural forces that are helping to shape the current moment. The main goal, however, is to consider how drugs are fueling an American “Great Awakening” that foreshadows future shifts in American religious cultures.

Speaker Bio: 

Gary Laderman is Goodrich C. White Professor of American Religious History and Cultures in the Department of Religion at Emory University. He has written books on death in America, religion and popular culture, and a memoir. Laderman is currently writing a book on religion and drugs, and teaches a course at Emory called “Sacred Drugs” which enrolls over 400 students. He has appeared and been interviewed in many media settings, including newspapers, documentaries, and as a guest on Joe Rogan.

Psychedelic medicines and treatment of mental health

Presentation Abstract:  

As psychedelics become more available and we move closer to national legalization, many psychologists and mental health professionals are wondering what impact this will have on the field.  Using a truama-informed lens, this speaker explores use of psychedelics within a treatment setting. This workshop will provide an overview of indigenous and current Western and research and applications, and potential of psychedelics with regard to mental health. Discussion will be surrounding important features of treatment, necessity of appropriate containment and support when using these medicines to address mental health conditions.

Speaker Bio: 

Since obtaining a Master’s degree in Counseling with MFT emphasis in 2007 at CSU Fresno and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2013, Dr. Flores has worked as a therapist in a wide variety of mental health treatment settings, with a focus on Mind-Body wellness. Dr. Flores has also completed training in Yoga, Reiki, and Mindfulness, and as a birth and end of life doula with specialization in accessible yoga, yoga for social justice and trauma-sensitive yoga.

This seminar will teach you the basics of select fungal species’ behavior and how to cultivate them confidently at home using simple and reliable methods. You will learn about mushroom growing products and various techniques to inoculate your own substrates.  We will teach you how to begin thinking critically about fungal behavior and grow your own mushrooms at home in the open air without fear of contamination.

Sam Wagner is owner and “myco-social worker” of Shroomsquatch Myco-Ventures. He specializes in teaching and providing simple and cost-effective ways to grow all kinds of mushrooms and integrate them into permaculture systems within their physical, emotional, and spiritual environments. He uses a community driven social work mindset to host fungal cultivation classes that empower individuals to engage, grow, and discover fungi’s role in their environments and lives while exploring or “squatchin” the intersections of science and spirit.
